We can not stress enough the importance of maintaining the great smile we've worked so hard to achieve. You can stay looking great by following some simple guidelines for wearing your retainers.

The day your braces are removed, a bonded wire is normally placed on the inside of the lower six front teeth. Since all teeth are prone to shift as we age, our goal is for you to have this retainer in place for a lifetime. If it should become loose during the 18 months of retention checks, we will repair it for no charge.

A Finisher is used as an intermediate retainer for just a week or two after having your braces removed. This rubbery mouthguard type appliance allows your teeth to settle into place.

You will receive a clear acrylic retainer either at your Post Orthodontic Record visit, or possibly when your braces are removed. This removable retainer is almost invisible on your teeth. Full time wear from three to nine months is crucial to the stability of your smile. After that, we'll have you wear it nightly for a period of time. As a "learning curve", we will replace this retainer once for free if it is lost or damaged. Remember the retention motto: "In your face or in your case or you will replace"!

And speaking of retention – we want you to know that even after you finish with your 18 months of periodic retention checks, you'll always have a friend in the orthodontic business. Even if it's been years since you've been an active patient, we'll be here for you. If you need to have your lingual wire repaired or have your invisible retainer replaced, expect only a modest maintenance fee. No new exam fee will be charged.
