Getting Braced for Braces
It will take about one hour to have braces placed on your teeth. Braces may be placed directly on the teeth by one of our orthodontists or indirectly, a technique in which the orthodontist places the braces on a model of your teeth. A special tray is then made to transfer the position of the braces from the model to your teeth. The trays are then used to place all the braces on your teeth, one quadrant at a time. This allows for a comfortable, painless, and efficient visit. When we are finished putting on your braces, you might be a little sore but that feeling won't last long, and we'll give you tips to ease the discomfort. Most of our patients are pleasantly surprised that getting their braces on was not nearly as uncomfortable as they expected it might be. One option we also have available is clear brackets. These "clear braces" are strong, good-looking, and very effective in straightening your teeth. On the day you get your braces, we will spend quite a bit of time going over the importance of and techniques for good brushing and oral hygiene. Many things are important to the success of your treatment, but brushing is really significant. Braces are strong, but you need to protect them from hard or chewy foods and ice. They will also feel strange in your mouth but be sure not to pick at them. Brush carefully and often and report any breakage immediately. |
